A Welcome Message From Our President ...

Maxine C. Mathis
Welcome to the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Chicago Central Section
It is my honor and privilege to serve as President of this remarkable section and to welcome you to a community rooted in sisterhood, service, leadership, and advocacy.
Founded in 1935 by the visionary Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, the National Council of Negro Women was established as a “national organization of national organizations” to unite Black women in the pursuit of equity, empowerment, and social justice. For more than 90 years, NCNW has served as a powerful voice for Black women, families, and communities through education, civic engagement, economic empowerment, health initiatives, and public policy advocacy.
The Chicago Central Section proudly carries forward that mission here in the heart of Chicago. For sixteen years, our section has served as a catalyst for change, bringing together women of purpose who are committed to uplifting our communities through meaningful programs, impactful partnerships, scholarship opportunities, and service initiatives. Our members represent diverse backgrounds, professions, and experiences, yet we are united by a shared commitment to advancing the legacy of NCNW and creating opportunities for future generations.
Whether you are a longtime member, community partner, supporter, or someone exploring membership for the first time, we are delighted that you are here. To our newest members, welcome to a sisterhood of service and leadership. Your talents, ideas, and passion are valued, and we look forward to the unique contributions you will make as we continue our work together.
As we honor the achievements of those who came before us, we remain focused on building a stronger future through engagement, innovation, and collective action. Together, we will continue to advocate, educate, and inspire while advancing NCNW’s mission throughout Chicago and beyond.
Thank you for visiting our website. I invite you to explore our programs, learn more about our work, and discover how you can join us in making a lasting impact.
"Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much."
