Chicago Central Section
Our (HER)Story
"Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much."
Chicago Central Section Motto
The National Council of Negro Women, Chicago Central Section, was chartered in August 2010. Malaun Rice organized the section during the summer of that year, bringing together several innovative women for a meeting at a Bronzeville café in Chicago. Their goal was to discuss how they could make a positive impact in a struggling community. Malaun aimed to assemble a group of women “who were willing to get down in the trenches and get their hands dirty, not just raise money to donate to organizations.” The first official meeting took place at Morgan Park Academy. The name "Chicago Central Section" was part of Malaun's vision to start at the heart of Chicago and expand outward.
